Welcome!

This is a page dedicated to Scottish post-punk band Josef K.

For those who haven't heard of Josef K, they were a short lived band from Edinburgh, Scotland, forming in 1979 and breaking up in 1981.

Josef K was one of the two original bands on the legendary Postcard record label in Scotland, alongside Edinburgh contemporaries and artistic partners, Orange Juice. Postcard later signed Aztec Camera, led by seventeen year old Roddy Frame, and Australian new wave band The Go-Betweens.

Further bands details are available at the official website http://www.josef-k.org/home.htm#

Josef K were way ahead of their time. Their angular, disco/punk fusion set them apart from their contemporaries of the postpunk/alt-rock explosion at the end of the 70s and into the 80s. However, they achieved limited commercial success, and only released one album while together, which went on to influence the likes of The Wedding Present and Franz Ferdinand.

Anyway,

The main purpose of this page is to go into in-depth evaluations of Josef K's songs. Their first album, Sorry For Laughing, set for release in 1980, was canned because the band was unhappy with what they had. They started over and released The Only Fun In Town in 1981, reusing several songs from their first attempt at a record.

The real purpose of this page, however, is to marvel at the glory that was (and still is) Josef K! They are a highly underrated band, and I will do my best to post evaluations of songs at regular intervals. Hope you enjoy and please feel free to comment/discuss anything Josef K related. It's a shame there wasn't already a Josef K blog somewhere out there!
